Refurbishment of the Victor Pasmore Gallery

Victor Pasmore was a renowned British artist and a leading figure in the development of abstract art in the 20th century. Known for his innovative approach to painting and sculpture, Pasmore transitioned from figurative art to abstraction, significantly influencing the modern art movement. His ties to Malta began when he acquired a farmhouse in Gudja in 1966, attracted by its unique landscape and light, which profoundly inspired his work. Pasmore’s residence in Malta allowed him to create and exhibit numerous works, while establishing several close friendships with Maltese artists and intellectuals. In line with its commitment to preserve and promote Maltese artistic heritage, while encouraging further research into Pasmore’s work, Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti set out to convert a former local bank headquarters into a state-of-the-art gallery to house the Victor Pasmore collection back in 2021.

Through the financial support received from the Malta Airport Foundation in 2023,Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti was able to refurbish, renovate and embellish the space to create a state-of-the-art gallery dedicated to housing the Victor Pasmore collection. This gallery not only preserves a permanent collection of Pasmore’s work, displaying his substantial cultural legacy, but also hosts an active program of temporary exhibitions showcasing the works of art of his contemporaries and other significant 20th-century Maltese artists.
