In 2023, the Malta Airport Foundation funded an embellishment project in the Parish Church of Saint Leonard in Kirkop, commissioning local artist Anthony Spagnol to create contemporary works for the south transept. The project, set for completion in late 2024, aims to enhance the church’s artistic beauty while inspiring spiritual reflection through depictions of contemporary saints and acts of mercy.
MoreVilla Hay, a small cottage within the historic Villa Frere gardens, dates back to 1740. Originally used as a retreat by Lady Erroll and later as a guesthouse, the cottage suffered severe damage after World War II, leading to the collapse of ceilings and loss of key structural elements. Decades of neglect left it in ruins. In 2021, the Friends of Villa Frere began restoring the cottage. In 2023, the Malta Airport Foundation joined the effort, funding significant repairs. The restoration was completed in 2024.
