Environmental Sustainability
- Since 2015, the company has been on a sustainability journey, beginning with its first GRI Sustainability report
- Malta International Airport is at Level 2 of the Airport Carbon Accreditation Programme and aims to reach Level 3 by 2024.
- 3% reduction in electricity consumption despite a 33% increase in passenger numbers in 2023.
- 4 PV systems throughout the airport campus. Plans are underway for further PV systems expansion.
- 3.2 million kWh of energy from renewable sources generated in 2023, triple the amount of clean energy produced in 2019.
- By 2050 the airport has committed to become a net zero airport, as published in its Net Zero Carbon Plan, also committing to reducing its emissions by 65% by 2030 when compared to 2015.
- 0.12 kg rate of landfill waste per passenger reached in 2023, in accordance with a landfill waste per passenger target launched in 2022.
- Home to 2 apiaries at airfield side, which house around 750,000 bees.
