CHRISTMAS WEATHER WATCH

  • Pleasant weather and sunny skies expected for Christmas
  • Highest temperature expected to reach 19°C; lowest 10°C
  • Light to moderate wind forecast for Christmas Day

The festive season is set to bring with it mostly clear, sunny skies to the Maltese Islands in the coming days, allowing families and friends to enjoy leisurely drives through Christmas markets or get some last-minute gift shopping done without being weighed down by layers of clothing or bulky umbrellas.

The Meteorological Office is forecasting a merry and bright Christmas weekend, which will see temperatures vary between a moderate high of 19°C, which is due to be reached on Christmas Day and a cool low of 11°C, which is forecast to be reached the following day. In fact, this Christmas is expected to be amongst the warmest on record, as temperatures are forecast to fall just a few degrees short of reaching the highest ever temperature recorded locally on Christmas Day; 23.6°C in 2009.

Christmas morning will be sunny as the clouds dotting our skies today are expected to break by tomorrow. Cooler temperatures during the weekend will be coupled with partly cloudy skies, with a slight possibility of rain showers forecast for the evening of Saturday 26th December and isolated showers forecast for Sunday 27th of December.

Tomorrow we can expect a moderate wind to blow from the west-southwest, while a rather strong to strong wind is forecast to blow from a southwest direction, becoming a northwesterly wind, on Boxing Day. Moderate west-northwesterly winds will continue to blow on Sunday, becoming rather strong winds northwesterly by the evening.
