AEGEAN Inaugural Flight Welcomed
- Fourth new airline this year AEGEAN lands in Malta
- AEGEAN offers optimum connectivity to and from the Greek Islands
- Airline operating Athens route on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays this Summer
AEGEAN, the largest Greek airline, landed at Malta International Airport for the first time today from Athens. The aircraft was welcomed by a celebratory water arch from the airport’s Fire and Rescue team.
The crew and passengers on board were treated to flowers and a cake cutting ceremony in the presence of Malta Tourism Authority Chairman Dr. Gavin Gulia, MTA CEO Mr. Paul Bugeja, Malta International Airport CEO Alan Borg and AEGEAN’s Ground Operations Director Mr. Panos Nicolaidis.
“We are delighted to be welcoming our fourth new airline this year and another flag carrier to our schedule,” said MIA CEO Alan Borg.
“The addition of AEGEAN to our network of airlines, opens up the Greek market further, and offers optimum connectivity to the Greek Islands, one of Europe’s favourite Summer destinations. Moreover, increased links to Athens, with transfer traffic growing significantly, means Malta is better connected to yet another European hub.
AEGEAN, a member of the Star Alliance network, is the largest Greek carrier providing premium quality short and medium haul services.
Dimitrios Gerogiannis, Chief Executive of AEGEAN said “We are very happy to be launching this new route to Malta, which is a popular destination for leisure and business travellers, and strengthens AEGEAN’s existing network. It is known that Greece and Malta have been historically close to each other and due to their Mediterranean identity they are maritime countries with long shipping traditions. I am sure that the new flights will contribute to further enhancing their cultural and economic relationships. We look forward to welcoming Maltese travellers who wish to spend their holidays in Greece. “
MTA CEO Paul Bugeja said: “AEGEAN will add to Air Malta’s existing operation and serve to open up further opportunities for tourism to Malta from the relatively untapped Greek outbound tourism market. Aegean complements Malta’s growing list of airlines ensuring adequate air connectivity for the sustainable growth and development of the Maltese tourism industry.”
AEGEAN first landed in Malta on Tuesday June 2, 2015 and will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays this Summer.
